L’ideazione del WordPress Community Day avviene pochi giorni dopo l’incontro del 24 marzo organizzato dal Meetup WordPress di Roma dove alcune delle global community e polyglots mentor della comunità di WordPress si erano rese disponibili per rispondere a dubbi e domande riguardo la comunità di WordPress, gli eventi, i modi di contribuire al progetto open source.
In quell’occasione hanno partecipato organizer dei Meetup di diverse città (Verona, Terni, Ancona, Roma) ed è stata una fantastica occasione per avere alcune risposte alle tante domande provenienti dalla community: L’incontro del meetup è durato solamente un’ora, ma le domande sorte erano tantissime, così nei giorni successivi si è iniziato a immaginare se poteva essere interessante un evento sviluppato su una giornata in cui potessero partecipare molti organizer dei Meetup italiani.
Da parte di WordPress Central c’è stata la disponibilità per organizzare nuove tipologie di eventi, così abbiamo iniziato la fase di progettazione del WordPress Community Day.
Si è subito pensato di svolgere l’evento, chiamato inizialmente Community Day, direttamente a Roma per renderlo facilmente raggiungibile da tutte le parti d’Italia.
Nel corso della progettazione sono state ipotizzate immediatamente 3 sale vista la disponibilità della venue, Binario F, nel darci una mano.
La fase di ideazione si è basata sulle problematiche emerse seguendo i vari Meetup:
- abbiamo ragionato sulle problematiche affrontate dai Meetup per ripartire con gli incontri in presenza, argomenti che potevano occupare la sala 1
- si è pensato immediatamente a trattare l’argomento della diversità e dell’inclusione, che potevano occupare la sala 2
- per la sala 3 si è pensato subito a renderla una sala “attività” con brevi talk in cui parlare della documentazione e dei tool da utilizzare, oltre a svolgere eventuali attività come la modifica di documentazione o la creazione di slide per la community
Nel pensare al programma, abbiamo iniziato a ipotizzare anche gli obiettivi per l’evento, un argomento che sarà esposto in un altro articolo.
Origin of WordPress Community Day
The idea of the WordPress Community Day comes a few days after the March 24 meeting organized by the Rome WordPress Meetup where some of the global community and polyglots mentors of the WordPress community had made themselves available to answer doubts and questions about the WordPress community, events, ways to contribute to the open source project.
On that occasion Meetup organizers from different cities (Verona, Terni, Ancona, Rome) participated and it was a fantastic opportunity to get some answers to the many questions coming from the community: The meetup meeting lasted only one hour, but the questions that arose were so many, so in the following days we started to imagine if it could be interesting an event developed on one day in which many Italian Meetup organizers could participate.
On the part of WordPress Central there was willingness to organize new types of events, so we started the planning phase of the WordPress Community Day.
It was immediately planned to hold the event, initially called Community Day, directly in Rome to make it easily accessible from all parts of Italy.
During the planning phase, 3 rooms were immediately assumed given the availability of the venue, Binario F, in helping us out.
The conceptualization phase was based on the issues that emerged from following the various Meetups:
- we reasoned about the issues faced by the Meetups to start again with in-person meetings, topics that could occupy room 1
- the topic of diversity and inclusion was immediately thought of, topics that could occupy room 2
- for room 3, immediate thought was given to making it an “activity” room with short talks in which to talk about the documentation and tools to be used, as well as possible activities such as editing documentation or creating slides for the community
