Venue and Access

Centre Loewenberg, Murten

The Switzerland Community Day will take place on the outskirts of Murten, a historic town located on the linguistic frontier between the French and German-speaking parts of Switzerland. We’ll be awaiting you at the Centre Loewenberg, a newly-renovated and modernised campus situated in a quiet park. The complex offers conference and exhibition rooms as well as catering and accommodation facilities. The Switzerland Community Day can therefore take place on the same site, where you can also stay overnight if you like. The centre even has its own train station at Muntelier-Löwenberg, but don’t forget that the train only stops on request!

Accessibility

The venue is entirely accessible to people in a wheelchair. The main entrance and the restaurant are at ground level with no steps, and the event rooms can be accessed by elevator. Toilets and hotel rooms are also accessible to wheelchairs.

A checkmark question in the ticketing form asks if you have a special need; no one specified any need (at the time of ticket closing), but if you require anything, please get in touch with us.

The venue’s outdoor park is also a pleasant place to visit if you need to take a break from the other attendees.

During the opening remarks, we will remind attendees about the Code of conduct and inclusive mindset.

Arriving by public transport

The Swiss railway network is legendarily punctual and well-organized. We recommend that you arrive by train if you can. The Centre Loewenberg is two hours from Geneva, Zurich or Basel. The Centre Loewenberg is adjacent to the Muntelier Löwenberg train station.

Important notes

  1. The S5 train from Bern is in two sections, which separate in Kerzers. One section of the train goes to Neuchâtel and one goes to Murten. Make sure you get on the right part of the train: you need to head towards Murten! If you find yourself in the wrong part of the train en route, you can change (quickly!) when the train arrives in Kerzers.
  2. Note that the train only stops at the Muntelier Löwenberg station on request, so make sure you press the button by the doors on the train in plenty of time.

From Bern

The direct journey takes around 30 minutes from Bern’s main station. Make sure and take the S5 train heading for Murten: the S5 is formed of two sections which separate at Kerzers.

From Geneva

Take the train from Geneva towards Neuchâtel, then change to the Interregio train to Kerzers. Change here and head towards Murten: Muntelier Löwenberg is the second station; one stop before Murten.

From Zurich

Take the Intercity from Zürich Hauptbahnhof as far as the main station in Bern (1h), then follow the directions from Bern. (See above.)

By plane

Switzerland’s main airports are at Basel (2h), Zurich Kloten (2h), Geneva (2h) and Bern Belp (1h 20m). These approximate travelling times are for public transport connections from the main airport terminal to the Muntelier Löwenberg railway station.

Travelling by road

There are a fair number of parking spaces on-site; the parking fee is CHF 8 per day. The parking is located about 300 meters away from the Conference Centre.

The Centre Loewenberg is just a couple of minutes’ drive from the Murten/Morat exit on the A1 motorway, heading west from Bern. Coming from Bern, head towards Murten once you leave the motorway and turn right at the first roundabout (just after McDonald’s). Coming from Lausanne-Yverdon, follow Bern and take the Murten/Morat exit. Once you leave the motorway, turn right at the first roundabout, then left at the second one.

The entrance to the site’s parking is a couple of hundred metres from the roundabout on the left.
